From the magnificent Crystal Grotto to the historic Ruined Abbey, striking landmarks offer endless opportunities for pictures on a wedding day. The Five Arch Bridge that crosses the Serpentine Lake looks stunning from the Gothic Temple, which is the perfect place to exchange your vows.
The park is brimming with life and character and each of the area’s unique landscapes reminds me why I’m honoured to be a recommended photographer for Painshill Park.

A beautiful wedding at Painshill
Corinne and Jamie are a lovely couple who got married here in September. Having postponed their wedding five times because of the pandemic, it was wonderful that their big day could finally go ahead. They exchanged their vows underneath the Gothic Temple, adorned with fresh flowers, before emerging to a shower of confetti!
It was then time for a walk around the park for some relaxed couple portraits. I took them through the woodlands at the top of the hill with the stunning vineyard and panoramic views as the backdrop. This made for some romantic pictures of the newlyweds as they settled in as husband and wife! They were keen to spend as much time with their guests as possible, so we headed across to the marquee in the main field to join the rest of the party.
Reception overlooking the park
Corinne and Jamie enjoyed lots of time celebrating with their friends and family before their delicious buffet was served. Some heartfelt speeches followed as the guests listened and smiled, leading to a few tears and lots of laughter. It was soon time for the party to get underway with the help of a talented jazz band, to finish their epic wedding day in style. I’m thrilled to have worked with this amazing couple, and here are some of my favourite moments……..

My favourite areas to photograph at Painshill Park
Crystal Grotto
At Painshill, the Crystal Grotto is one of the highlights. It’s a beautiful cave that mesmerises both adults and children alike. It boasts glistening water, stalactites, rocks, and stunning crystals. When the sun shines through, it makes for a sparkling spectacle that reflects off the coral pools and nearby Serpentine Lake. I love capturing images in this magical space.
Ruined Abbey
The Ruined Abbey is located close to the peaceful waters and creates an idyllic mirror in the lake. Underpinning the 18th-century tradition of monastery winemaking, it harmonises beautifully with the vineyard. Constructed as a ruin, it oozes a sense of antiquity and serves as a reminder of days gone by. This is the perfect spot for when the bride and groom need some time alone, away from their busy wedding.
Gothic Temple
The Gothic Temple offers picturesque views across the Surrey countryside during the wedding ceremony. This decagon structure, constructed from timber and rendered to mimic stone, boasts a very distinctive design. The temple features open facets to beautifully frame the idyllic panoramas.
Back in the day, King George III proclaimed this wonderful viewpoint during his trip here and it’s easy to see why this structure captured the monarch’s heart.
Temple of Bacchus
Situated at the top of the hill, the Temple allows for views across the Surrey Hills. Built in 1762 by Hamilton, it was designed as the home of the statue of Bacchus. The Temple was loved by Thomas Jefferson, the President of the United States at the time, and I love to photograph this wonderful piece of historic architecture.
Serpentine Lake
At the heart of Painshill Park lies an idyllic 14-acre lake. It was designed to curve out of sight gently, and it invites gazes across to the picturesque landscapes. Resident lake birds flock here all year round, attracting wildlife enthusiasts from afar. I love to marvel at the Waterwheel, a monumental structure that dates back to the 1830s, and to admire the Woollett Bridge that leads to Grotto Island and the Five Arch Bridge.
Hermitage
Experiencing the Hermitage at Painshill is like embarking on a journey into solitude. Set in the core of nature, this retreat offers a glimpse into what life would have been like as an 18th-century hermit. Surrounded by epic landscapes, the Hermitage is rich in charm and character.
Gothic Tower
The Gothic Tower stands as a picture-perfect example of architectural grandeur. Walk down the spiralling staircase and you’ll be rewarded with views of the surrounding countryside. A visit to the Gothic Tower promises a wonderful fusion of history, gastronomy and nature.
Vineyards
The vineyards were transformed into a rockery by its previous Victorian owners and later replanted by the Painshill Park Trust in the early 1990s. I love placing the bride and groom in the centre of the composition with the rolling vineyards as the backdrop. The views from the top of the hill in this area are breathtaking.
