I’d always wanted to be an Upwaltham Barns wedding photographer before I moved to Sussex, and finally, my opportunity arose! Here’s one of my all-time favourite weddings.
This beautiful Sussex wedding venue is a joy to work at and is located in the beautiful South Downs National Park. This attractive setting looked fantastic with its well-maintained grounds and pretty flowerbeds and was the relaxing setting for Fiona and Adam’s big day in the Summer.
The charm of Upwaltham Barns
The Upwaltham Barns exude charm and character with an authentic rustic vibe, and the gorgeous East Barn was the peaceful location for their idyllic ceremony. After the exchange of vows, Adam punched the air with triumph! The newlyweds walked up the aisle to the courtyard, emerging to a shower of confetti. Their guests gathered around to congratulate the new Mr and Mrs Feeney!
As a documentary wedding photographer, I must be discreet and unobtrusive at this part of the day, capturing the guests and bridal party as they enjoyed the cocktail hour at Upwaltham. After plenty of drinks and mingling, I took Fiona and Adam on a tour of the beautiful grounds for a romantic couple shoot. They were very excited and natural in front of the camera as we strolled around, taking in the wonderful setting.

The magnificent South Barn looked fantastic, with the table decorated with floral centrepieces and sprigs of olive leaves. The barn was the perfect setting for the wedding breakfast and evening entertainment with its oak framed beams and warm atmosphere! As the speeches finished, the guests raised their glasses to the happy couple as I photographed the action. We promptly made the trek up the hill to catch the last few minutes of daylight and take in the scenic views overlooking Upwaltham Barns. Just as the twilight hour emerged, I set up my flashes for some creative shots of the couple against the barn under a deep blue night sky.
All in all, a wonderful day at Upwaltham in the countryside!
