Photographing Tammy and Josh at Wotton House

When Tammy and Josh asked me to capture their big day here, I was very excited to return to this country house in Wotton. The lovely couple tied the knot during the ceremony at a nearby church before heading to Wotton House for their reception to celebrate. When we arrived at the mansion, I allowed them plenty of time to mingle and kick back before I lead them on a romantic stroll around the gardens to take in the scenic views as husband and wife. They were very natural in front of the camera, and with the sun shining all day long, this made for some beautiful images of the bride and groom.

I love Wotton House because of the variety of different locations available for wedding photos. The temples, the neat topiary gardens, the caves and the magnificent Old Library are just some of the areas that make fantastic compositions in photographs. On the day, I love to explore the opulent areas and how the light depicts and shapes the scene. I create artistic compositions as I go, both in the house and the beautiful landscapes outside.

Reception in the Evelyn Suite

The Evelyn Suite is on the opposite side of Wotton House to the Old Library. It’s the perfect setting for a wedding breakfast and evening reception with its pretty drapes and elegant interior. There were some moving moments during the speeches and lots of laughs too as all the wedding guests raised a glass of champagne to toast the married couple!

There was just enough time to squeeze in a golden hour sunset shoot before the party and dancing began inside the house. The dance floor at Wotton is always buzzing, and later, as the twilight hour emerged, I lead Tammy and Josh outside to capture some epic wedding images of the newlyweds framed under the deep blue night sky. When it’s dark, I love to set up my flashguns to light the scene, creating dramatic portraits within an epic landscape.

Their reportage wedding photos!

I really enjoyed capturing such a fun and relaxed bride and groom, and here are my favourite snapshots from this Surrey wedding at Wotton House. Tammy and Josh loved their artistic images and gave me some kind feedback as their photographer……

“Thank you so much Murray – we absolutely love the photos and can’t stop looking at them over and over!” – Tammy & Josh

Stunning wedding venue in Dorking

At the end of the mile-long scenic driveway, deep in the beautiful Surrey countryside’s heart, lies the magnificent building of Wotton House. With its stunning 17th century architecture, the hotel features Roman-style temples, bridges, grottos, ponds and even a stream, all set within 13 acres of beautifully manicured gardens. There are literally endless opportunities for great photography with stunning backdrops as far as the eye can see!

It’s an impressive Grade II listed house featuring high ceilings and wood panelling, oozing elegance and sophistication at this private residence. Part of the De Vere Hotels group, Wotton House, is highly regarded as one of Surrey’s most spectacular wedding venues. Being a professional photographer is my dream job, and as the bride and groom exchange their vows, I’ll always be on hand to freeze those special moments in time.

The word Wotton actually originates from the Anglo-Saxon tribes of ancient England. Their name derives from the term wudu (which means wood) and tun (which means settlement). So you can see how this magnificent building became know as the Wotton House we know and love today. For photography, there’s a whole host of different options to choose from when getting married at Wotton that cater for your every need. From smaller intimate affairs to lavish weddings on a larger scale, the sky is the limit with this fantastic wedding setting.

As a photographer, Wotton House is an incredible venue for taking pictures on the wedding day. If you are planning your special day at this Surrey location and are on the lookout for a photographer, I’d love to hear your wedding plans. I have developed a friendly photography style to put my subjects at ease on their wedding day, which I find illustrates the emotions and feelings. Telling the story through my lens is what I’m good at, and I can blend in easily at Wotton House to become part of the big day. Helping the couple to get the most from their wedding is my primary focus, as when my subjects are enjoying themselves, the photography will speak for itself with beautiful compositions. My approach to photography at Wotton, or any other of the weddings I shoot, is very natural with no awkward posing.

I don’t want my pictures to look over-processed or over saturated and prefer subtle hues and tones to enhance the bride and groom.  I urge my couples to enjoy their special day whilst I document the action for you with my cameras.
