Beamed barns full of character are always popular and make ideal venues for romantic rural weddings in traditional style, and none more so than Maidens Barn near Chelmsford and Braintree in Essex. The stunning Grade II-listed Elm Barn is believed to have been built in 1806 and has been sympathetically transformed from a dilapidated shell to the beautiful wedding venue that can be seen today. The spacious, light and airy barn boasts a vaulted beamed ceiling enjoying wonderful views across to the ancient oak tree in the adjacent gardens. Perfect for your ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception, there is space for 200 guests.
The impressive new Oak Barn is equally suited to both small informal weddings and larger wedding celebrations, with a capacity of 200 guests. There’s a high-beamed ceiling, sparkling chandeliers, large picture windows and several French doors leading outside into the courtyard area.
Alternatively, for summer weddings when the weather is warmer, why not hold your outdoor civil wedding ceremony beneath the flowering Wedding Arbour. Again, space here for 200 guests.

The venue offers a plethora of delightful backgrounds for your amazing wedding photographs — pictures that will forever bring back many happy memories of your Special Day spent with family and friends.
For the Happy Couple, the charming ‘honeymoon’ Hideaway Cottage is available. Tucked away nearby in the surrounding countryside, this romantic cottage features its own lounge area, a king-size bed and a kitchenette. In 2018, additional accommodation was added to the site providing thirteen guest rooms.
