Information about the venue
Frensham Hall in Surrey is a magnificent choice if your looking for an historic wedding venue for your special day. The charming and imposing Edwardian mansion, built in 1898, is steeped in history and set in 120 acres of beautiful countryside with far-reaching views over woods and farmland – just south of Farnham, an hour from the centre of London and forty minutes from Heathrow.
On arrival, I was greatly impressed by the striking red brick building with its distinctive gothic windows. And, wandering around the extensive grounds, I soon discovered that the magical and enchanting gardens offer endless backdrops for memorable photographs of the happy couple mingling with family and close friends. The walled garden under the pavilion is ideal if you fancy a less formal setting in which to hold your ceremony, and can accommodate up to 150 guests. For a less traditional, more intimate ceremony, try the tree house. The sweeping terrace is the perfect place to join your guests for a drink of champagne or Pimms, perhaps?
One of the advantages of the building is the versatile layout of the main rooms, all of which interconnect allowing the spaces to be adapted to your own personal preferences. The Ballroom is decorated in Louis XVI style and boasts a Minstrel’s gallery, coved ceiling, ornamental frieze, fireplace and Corinthian columns. Lots of marvelous opportunities here for your reception photographs!
Great wedding photo opportunities
Large double doors link through to the Long Gallery, two stories high with the entire north side enjoying fine stained glass windows. There is an impressive cosy fireplace of Bath stone and white veined marble. This deceptively intimate space is popular for the marriage ceremony itself. Another room favoured by many couples tying the knot, is the Drawing Room which enjoys lovely views across Frensham’s manicured lawns towards the open countryside and the Ponds. This double room shares its décor with the Ballroom and has ornamental friezes and Corinthian columns. There are further rooms available should you wish to use them: the wood paneled Old Library and the lovely light and airy Orangery. Wherever you look, you can be assured of a fantastic backdrop for your wedding photographs.
