RHS Wisley Wedding Venue in Surrey

Information about the venue

If you are looking for a unique wedding reception venue, then the Royal Horticultural Society’s Garden at Wisley, in Worthing on the south coast of Surrey, has the perfect setting for your Special Day to spend with family and friends. There are 240 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens with an abundance of secret hideaways and delightful backdrops for your stunning wedding photographs. The flagship garden of the RHS, Wisley attracts over a million visitors every year, and it is not difficult to see why.

There is so much to see and enjoy here that will make your wedding a day you and your loved one will remember for the rest of your lives. Marvel at the spectacular Bicentenary Glasshouse (opened 2007) covering three-quarters of an acre, with its desert, tropical and temperate climates — up to 150 seated guests can be accommodated here, or 180 standing. The garden boasts one of the finest rock gardens in Britain, and covers the whole hillside. Beyond lies an area of light woodland where magnolias and tall rhododendrons thrive along with snowdrops and patches of candelabra primulas. The meandering pathways lead to wonderfully laid out woodland gardens planted with a mass of flowers, ensuring a wealth of colour all year round. Plants of special interest include: alpines, cacti, camellias, chrysanthemums, conifers, fruit bushes/trees, heathers, magnolias orchids, roses, vegetables and many, many more.

Fantastic Wedding Photo Opportunities

Apart from the Glasshouse, you’ll have a fine choice of several other areas for your wedding (some only available during the summer months): the Terrace Room (50 seated), the Water Lily Pavilion (150 standing), Wisteria Walk (up to 200 standing), Bowes-Lyon Pavilion (standing for 80), Wilson’s Wood Marquee site (up to 200) and the Glasshouse Café (100 seated).

During your wedding day, you and your guests will never tire of exploring the many wonderful features to be discovered here. Take a look at the model gardens, the wild gardens, the walled garden, the canal with water lilies, the extensive Jubilee arboretum, the alpine houses, the fruit field, and the trial field where plants are submitted for trial — an important aspect of the work done here.

Full of history

Wisley Gardens have come a long way since George Fergusson Wilson, businessman, scientist and keen grower of fruit and orchids, purchased the original site in 1878. During his lifetime, only 60 acres were laid to garden, the rest being woodland. The garden, like its plants, has grown in size dramatically over the years and was given to the RHS in 1902. And the rest is, as they say, is history. Today, Wisley Gardens is indeed a glorious place to hold your wedding reception. With venues available for groups of 10 to 250, you are bound to find an area of the garden to make your day truly unforgettable. And a set of my stunning wedding photographs will bring back many happy memories for years to come.

“My husband & I are absolutely thrilled with Murray’s pictures of our wedding day, and how he went above and beyond all of our hopes for a photographer. He was incredibly professional and also fitted in so well with the wedding guests due to his kind nature.
