Swallows Oast, originally built in the 1830s and converted in 1995 to a banqueting hall, is the perfect wedding venue. It is located at Gibbs Reed Farm in the heart of the beautiful East Sussex countryside, just off the A21 midway between Maidstone and Hastings. The popular and tranquil venue comprises a tastefully modernised twin-kiln oast barn with a paved terrace and gravelled outdoor areas, surrounded by acres of beautiful countryside, including a small lake and a secluded woodland area. As you can imagine, there are endless photographic opportunities on offer here, and the variety of breathtaking backdrops will provide many memorable pictures of your Special Day in Sussex.
Unique wedding setting
The 38ft long main hall, with its impressive oak-beamed ceiling and traditional pine-floored minstrels’ gallery, can comfortably seat 130 guests for a charming romantic wedding. The roundels at the end of the building house a licensed bar. If you need additional space, adjoining marquees are available at an extra cost – complete with flooring, champagne linings, chandeliers and orangery windows. Or, for outside weddings, you may prefer the Swallows Pavilion – a great alternative for your ceremony, evening meal, barbeque or hog roast. The choice is yours. Wander down the stunning Swallow Trail and be amazed by the wonderful distant views of the surrounding countryside. Your esteemed photographer will be one step ahead of you, capturing the scene. There is also a playground and willow maze at the top of the trail for children. Talking of children, why not organise a few gardens games? Or hire a magician or juggler to keep them (and the adults!) entertained and ensure that all your guests enjoy your unique wedding day.
Fantastic wedding photo possibilities
The sunny courtyard is perfect for welcoming your guests and mingling over a flute of champagne. Ample parking is available and there’s even space to land a helicopter nearby. Since Spring 2018, Swallows Oast has a comfortable central-heated Bridal Suite and bridesmaid/makeup room with freestanding tub and log-burner – ideal overnight accommodation for the bride and groom.
