Dating back to 1322, Down Hall Hotel, situated in Bishop’s Stortford near Harlow, forty-five minutes from central London in Essex, offers a truly romantic place to celebrate your wedding day. The impressive Grade II* listed country mansion is one of the finest wedding venues in the county, set in 110 acres of beautiful parkland and landscaped gardens and boasting an impressive Italian Baroque façade and outstanding views over the surrounding Essex countryside. There is certainly no shortage here of wonderful backdrops for your stunning, magical wedding photographs.
There are plenty of luxurious rooms and opulent interiors to choose from when planning your Special Day – nineteen stylish rooms, to be precise. Each room enjoys an abundance of natural daylight, large windows, character features, high ceilings and ornate décor. For example, The popular wedding venue can accommodate up to 190 guests for your Wedding Breakfast in the magnificent Bridgeman Suite. The Prior Suite has space for 50 guests for the civil ceremony, 60 guests for the wedding breakfast, and 150 guests for the reception. A whole host of smaller suites are available for more intimate occasions — the smallest accommodating 32 people. Alternatively, why not plan for an outdoor ceremony in the new Wedding Gazebo, surrounded by delightfully landscaped gardens?

Mingle with your friends and family at the evening reception. Again, you’ll find no shortage of luxurious rooms in which to dance the night away, with a capacity of 150 guests.
Over the years, Down Hall has been many things to many people: Back in the 14th century, the grounds of Down Hall served as an old monastery. During the Great War, the building served as a sanatorium for wounded soldiers. Today, the hall is a splendid wedding venue, winning the Essex Wedding Venue of the Year in 2014. The house has since resumed its longstanding tradition of providing fine catering and entertainment for the people of Essex, Hertfordshire and further afield.
